The name still has cachet. It may no longer be a "village of palaces", as it was in the 16th century; it may now be to pricey to support an impoverished but formidably talented artistic community, as it did in the 19th century; the cutting-edge King's Road fashions of the 1960s and punk may have passed into folk memory; the economic boom of the 1980s, which brought the derogatory phrase 'Sloane Ranger' (used to describe the uppity local yuppies) may have passed; but Chelsea stil thrives.

Royal Hospital Chelsea. The grandest old folks' home in the country, the Royal Hospial was inspired by Louis XIV's Hotel des Invalides in Paris. Charles II wanted an equally splendid home for his veteran soldiers and, in 1682, commissioned Christopher Wren to construct the present structure arond courtyards.

Chealsea Physic Garden. Сад основан "Обществом аптекарей" в 1676 году для изучения лекарственных свойств растений. Помимо лекарственных трави специй в оранжереях растут экзотические деревья и цветы, привезенные из разных тран. Здесь можно увидеть и самое высокое в Великобритании оливковое дерево, хлопок, а также один и первых в стране садв с декоративными горками, заложеннй в 1772 г.
